How to setup your KSU MacIntosh


Introduction

Your new Apple Macintosh device is a powerful new machine that will assist in productivity for your work. The following guide explains how to setup the device from out of the box to ensure you are receiving KSU’s software, configurations, and security. This can be completed anywhere with a wired or wireless internet connection.

Instructions

  1. If replacing your machine, please backup your files to OneDrive or another method first on the old computer
  2. Plug in computer with included power cable or power adaptor and USB-C cable.(See Figure 1)
  3. Open the lid of your new Mac notebook or press the power button of the Mac desktop.
  4. If prompted, click Get Started.
  5. Choose language and click Continue. (See Figure 2)
  6. Choose country and click Continue. (See Figure 3)

  7. When prompted for Accessibility Options click "Not Now" unless needed.
  8. Connect to the internet:
    1. On Campus: Connect to KSU. Enter your KSU NetID and password when prompted and click Continue.(See Figure 4a) For the “Verify Certificate” prompt, click Continue.(See Figure 4b)
    2. Off Campus: Connect to your wireless network by choosing from the list and entering the password when prompted and click Continue. (See Figure 4a)You can connect via wired connection on or off campus as well if you prefer.

  9. When prompted for Remote Management, click Continue.
  10. Enter your KSU email address and password when prompted and click Sign In, approve with Duo.(See Figure 5)

  11. When prompted to “Create a Computer Account” use the following settings:
    1. Full name: Your preferred first and last name(This should already be populated)
    2. Account name: Your KSU NetID (This should already be populated)
    3. Password: Your KSU NetID password
    4. Click Continue

  12.  When prompted to "Select Your Time Zone" click Continue.
  13. The Mac will automatically log in to the created account and begin setup after about 3 to 5 (times can vary depending on network connection.  If this does not happen, contact the KSU Service Desk.
  14. If prompted, click Register Your Mac. (See Figure 7)
    1. Enter the asset tag number from the back of the machine and click Confirm. (See Figure 8)

  15. The computer will set up and install required software.  This process will take up to 30 minutes depending on the network connection.
  16. When complete, you will be prompted to click Logout. (See Figure 9)

  17. Login with your KSU NetID and password. (See Figure 10)

  18. When prompted to enable FileVault, click Enable Now. (See Figure 11)

  19. Connect to KSU wireless network.  You will be prompted for your credentials and to accept the certificate, click Continue. (See Figure 12a)
  20. Enter your password to add the certificate to your system, click Update Settings. (See Figure 12b)

  21. If On Campus: Sign into Enterprise Connect when prompted.
  22. The setup is now complete

 

If setup off campus, do this when you return to campus:

  • Log into Enterprise Connect to keep your NetID password in sync and get access to your scan folder.
  • connect to KSU wireless network for the best performance.

 

How to install additional software:

  • Open Managed Software Center or Self Service by clicking its icon on the Dock. (See Figure 13 & 14)
  • Find any software you would like to install and click the install button.
  • The software will install and be available in your /Applications folder or in your Launchpad.
